After scoring a century in the domestic market, Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Padmaavat has reportedly earned Rs 212 crore over the extended weekend worldwide spanning four days.
Even as Padmaavat crossed Rs 100-cr-mark at the domestic ticket windows over the weekend, Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s magnum opus also surpassed the lifetime collections of Shah Rukh Khan’s Dilwale, Salman Khan’s Tiger Zinda Hai and Bajrangi Bhaijaan and is also likely to cross Aamir Khan’s Dangal records in Australia. The film is expected to earn about Rs 200 crore, according to a boxofficeindia report. The final figures will be updated in a few hours.
Sharing details on the figures for New Zealand, trade analyst Taran Adarsh tweeted, “This may sound UNBELIEVABLE, but #Padmaavat has crossed *lifetime biz* of #Dilwale, #BajiraoMastani, #Sultan, #TigerZindaHai [still running] and #BajrangiBhaijaan in its *opening weekend* itself in Australia… Will cross #Dhoom3 today [Mon]… INCREDIBLE indeed!.. #Padmaavat is SENSATIONAL in key international markets… USA-Canada will be updated later… AUSTRALIA Weekend: A$ 1,728,642 [₹ 8.88 cr] UK Weekend: £ 846,024 [₹ 7.59 cr]Note: Some locations yet to be updated. While claiming that the final figures are yet to arrive, the film trade website also noted that Padmaavat crossed $10 million in the Gulf and may have earned Rs 212 crore worldwide.
The Deepika Padukone-Ranveer Singh-starrer collected Rs 110 crore in the domestic market.
Made at an estimated budget of Rs 180 crore, Padmaavat was expected to be one of the biggest releases of 2017, but almost a year long protest that often turned violent, and a delay at the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) postponed the film to January.
Padmaavat stars Deepika in the lead role of Rani Padmini. Shahid Kapoor essays the role of Maharawal Ratan Singh and Ranveer Singh portrays Alauddin Khilji, the 13th century ruler of the Khilji Dynasty.
