Alright, alright, the Ziro Music Festival 2017 is close at hand. And, with the glowing reviews this music fest has garnered in all its previous seasons, it seems the event is about to go on major music binge this autumn too.
Beginning from September28, it will bring plenty of chances to hear Reggae Rajahs and Bint El Funk and more out-there fare. Now in its sixth year, the Ziro Music Festival is set to make more waves as you’ll find loads of killer acts that you absolutely cannot afford to miss.
The artist line-up so far has names including Reggae Rajahs (Delhi), Damo Suzuki (Cologne), Alaska Snack Time (Tel Aviv), Alobo Naga (Dimapur), Rizal Abdulhadi (Bali), Thalavattam (Kochi), The Kathmandu Killers (Nepal), Bint El Funk (Jerusalem), Kroashia (Aizawl), Dhruv Visvanath (Delhi), Lateral (Guwahati), Sofia Ashraf (Bangalore), Sapta (Chennai), Khasi Bloodz (Shillong) and Jambili (Diphu).
The festival also affords visitors an opportunity to interact and mingle with the Apatani tribe, after which the valley surrounding the site of festival has been named. Apatani is recognised by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site.
If you did not know, Ziro is a hill station in Arunachal Pradesh, 164 km from the state capital Itanagar. It features the original Ziro village and the New Ziro town known as Hapoli, both of which are 4-5 km apart. The Ziro Festival of Music takes place on the periphery of Ziro town. Rickshaws ferry passengers to and fro between the venue and main town.
Thanks to its awesome Himalayan location, you can also take a break without straying too far from all the action. In fact, with the Apatani people on-site to serve you fresh rice wine and fairground food, you won’t even have to leave the premises. The attendees can either put up in the simple hotels in the main town of Ziro, or at the homestays where the owners serve their guests with home-grown organic food. If you wish to stay closer, the tents at the fest site can accommodate two to six people. With the best of location, people, artists and the works, how could the Ziro Festival 2017 be anything but pitch perfect?
